Where's Joe McCarthy When We Need Him?

Far right bloggers and pundits have convinced Dunkin Donuts to pull a commercial of Rachel Ray wearing a scarf because "they" say it represents a scarf worn by "terrorists."

How sad is it that we now equate scarfs with terrorism?
Thank goodness there's a Starbucks down the street.

What's happening here?

In the beginning of May, 2008:

Torandoes almost daily for a week across the US midwest and southeast.
Volcano erupting in Chile.
Huge cyclone in Myanmar and another on the way, killing more than 100,000.
Devasting earthquake in China, killing more than 10,000.
Are these "signs" that things are changing or that things should change?

Finally!

Polar Bears finally listed as endangered.
Now can we do something about the people of Myanmar/Burma?
I signed petitions for the Polar Bears...give me one for the people ravaged by that cyclone and by their military junta - not even a government.

Almost Camelot

I once had a chance to see Sir Richard Burton as King Arthur on Broadway in the revival of Camelot in the late 1970s. I didn't and have regreted it ever since.

Today I watched "Live from Lincoln Center": Camelot with Gabriel Byrne as Arthur. He was wonderful - I fell in love with him...

Or did I fall in love (again) with the original?

From My Daughter on Mother's Day

I love groundhogs - even more than flowers.

Thank you, Heather

National Nurses Week

Images of Nursing

The second image is more accurate, except for the cap - we don't wear caps anymore.

I just read an email from CareerBuilder, listing the nursing job opportunities in my area. In the last few days, there were more than 50. 50!

Yes, there is a shortage.

I'm 60 and still working. The ideal in the first picture has changed to the reality of the second.

May Day

Happy May Day.

May the flowers bloom in your garden and
may the Goddess touch you with many blessings.
